Port Cannot Be Detected Arduino IDE Solution (Windows)

If you have encountered an error whereby the Arduino IDE does not display any port connections under the Tools menu even though your microcontroller has been connected via USB, it is possible that your computer does not have the CH340 driver to support the microcontroller. In order to overcome this problem, follow the following instructions for Windows computers.

1. Download the CH340 driver from the following link:

http://www.arduined.eu/ch340-windows-8-driver-download/

2. Extract the file to a suitable location.

3. Open device manager on the computer.

4. Select the Serial Port on the device manager.

5. Right-click and select Update Driver Software.

6. Select the "Browse my computer for driver software" option.

7. Select the "Let me pick a list of device drivers from my computer" option.

8. Select the "Have Disk.." option.

9. Browse and select the CH341SER.inf file in the folder you extracted earlier.

10. Install the driver software and restart the IDE.

The issue should be resolved with this solution.
